Filing Timing and Cure Windows

Ex parte hearings require telephonic reservation between 2 court days and 12:00 p.m. the day before; moving papers due by 1:30 p.m. the day before; opposing party must call by 4 p.m. the day before.

The moving party shall make a telephonic reservation with the courtroom, no later than 12:00 p.m. the court day before the hearing and no earlier than two (2) court days before the hearing. Moving papers shall be filed no later than 1:30 p.m. the court day before the hearing. Any party opposing the ex parte shall make a call to the courtroom no later than 4 p.m. the court day before the hearing.

Moving papers must be filed within 24 hours of reserving a motion date, except for Motions for Sanctions and Motions for Summary Judgment/Summary Adjudication.

All moving papers in support of the motion (e.g., notice, memorandum of points and authorities, separate statement, declarations, exhibits, etc.) shall be filed within 24 hours of the reservation, or the reservation will be cancelled. This 24-hour filing requirement does not apply to Motions for Sanctions and Motions for Summary Judgment/Summary Adjudication which should be filed per code.

Chambers Communication Rules

Remote video hearings allowed for Non-Law and Motion and Law and Motion hearings, but not for Ex Parte hearings unless ordered otherwise; counsel must comply with Local Rule 375(c) regarding attire and camera.

The Court allows remote video hearings, when appropriate, for Non-Law and Motion and Law and Motion hearings. The Court does not allow remote video hearings for Ex Parte hearings, absent a contrary court order. If appearing for a remote video hearing, counsel shall comply with Local Rule 375(c), including being dressed in appropriate business attire, and having the camera on.

Junior Lawyer Participation Incentives

Only one attorney per party may argue unless the court permits more to allow a less experienced attorney to argue.

In the absence of permission by the court, only one attorney for a party may present oral argument on a motion, application, or issue. Upon request, the court may allow more than one attorney per party to argue if the purpose is to provide an opportunity for a less experienced attorney.
