**United States Magistrate Judge Nadia S. Medrano** was appointed to the Southern District of Texas in 2021. Judge Medrano earned her B.A. in Criminology from St. Mary's University in San Antonio in 2003 and her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in 2006. Her legal career began with a brief tenure in private practice at Jones, Galligan, Key & Lozano, LLP in Weslaco, Texas from 2006 to 2007, where she focused on commercial litigation. She then spent fourteen years as an Assistant Federal Public Defender in McAllen from 2007 through 2021. During that time she held leadership positions with the Hidalgo County Bar Association, including treasurer, and received recognition as Board Member of the Year and Member of the Year.
